Activities for Children in the Tel Aviv Area

By Jane Ryan

While visiting Israel for some exciting holy land tours, you may want to take advantage of the various attractions for children the city of Tel Aviv has to offer. Tel Aviv and its neighboring cities have diverse activities and attractions that range from sunny beaches to amusement parks. Here are some of the main attractions the city has to offer.

The Yarkon Park

Tel Aviv's equivalent of New York's central park, the Yarkon Park, also called Ganey Yehoshua (Joshua Gardens) offers plenty of open spaces, playgrounds, ponds, bicycle and running tracks. There is also a wonderful bird zoo for children called 'the Tzapari' where amusing parrot shows take place every Saturday. On weekends the park offers train rides for children. You can also rent a small boat and sail down the river with your family. This is the perfect place to take your children for long walks, or to play and to have a picnic.

The Tel Aviv Amusement Park

The Tel Aviv amusement park is called 'Luna Park'. It is located in the northern part of the city and offers some old fashioned attractions, combined with new and more modern additions. Another amusement park, which is more modern in nature, is called the Superland and is located in the city of Rishon Lezion, about twenty five minutes by car from the city of Tel Aviv.

The Meimadion Water Park

During the summer months, children thrill to visit this water park, situated in the Yarkon Park, very close to the Luna Park. The water park includes swimming pools for adults and young children, water slides and a wonderful wave pool.

The Safari

Located in the neighboring city of Ramat Gan, the Safari has been one of Israel's most loved attractions for children for many years. You can take a car ride in the Safari area to see uncaged animals in their natural habitat, take a train ride with your children, drive through the lion area, or visit the Safari zoo, where animals are kept in humane conditions. Check for early morning tours or nightly tours, that are occasionally offered.

The Gordon Swimming Pool

In this unique swimming pool, located near the marina, the water is brought directly from the depths of the sea. This makes for a refreshing experience during hot summer days, as the water is ice cold. Ideal for people who do not like sand but would still like to enjoy a Tel Aviv beach like experience.
